Brunel’s Center for Law, Economics and Finance invites you to its first annual conference “The old” and the “new” private security industry and the public/private link.

This event is free and open to the public. The conference will take place in a hybrid format: on campus in room Eastern Gateway 003A, and online, via Teams.

Private protection is a thriving business in the UK and around the world. The number of private security guards now exceeds the number of public police officers in the majority of developed countries. In cyberspace, there has been even more impressive growth, with several private players providing security services worth billions of pounds. This conference aims to bring together experts from different disciplines to discuss the latest developments related to private security and its link with the public sector.

Among others, the conference will explore the following questions:

  • What is the relationship between the public and private security sectors?
  • How does the government affect investment in private security?
  • What is the relationship between the traditional sector and the cyber-private security sector?
  • How big are the traditional and new private security sectors?
  • What are the most pressing regulatory issues for the sector in the UK?
