Sergeant Jacob Mashile, communications manager for the Edenvale Police SAPS, said cooperation is particularly important in large metropolitan areas that have a high density of security personnel.

Mashile said Edenvale SAPS met with ECPF members and security companies on January 19 to unveil the plan for the coming year.

The reunion saw Edenvale crime fighters unite as they came together and discussed how best to serve the community.

“Police appreciate the role that security guards play because they are an extra pair of eyes on the street who can share observations and monitor trends,” Mashile said.

He said police communicate with private security personnel about possible threats in the area.

An example of the working relationship between the SAPS, CPF and security companies that Mashile provided was the police sharing photographs of wanted individuals with the CPF and security companies for them to look for.

“Communication and cooperation between Edenvale CPF, private security companies and law enforcement agencies is crucial,” Mashile stressed.

“Our city has endured and thrived in the face of crime, but cannot afford to let its guard down.”

Mashile said that by working together, the public and private sectors are stronger.

He said partnerships are the cornerstone of defending communities against crime.

“Additionally, private security companies can supplement and support Edenvale SAPS and Metro Police agencies by relieving them of some of their calls for duty,” Mashile said.
