A private security guard who assaulted a man at a nightlife establishment in Albufeira has become the first case of suspension of rights in Portugal in this sector.
PSP police announced the decision of the Under Secretary of State and Home Administration, stating that the private security officer who assaulted a man at a nightlife establishment in Albufeira saw his professional title suspended and will be banned from performing his duties “until the conclusion of the investigation.”.
In a response to the Lusa agency, the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) specifies that âthis was the first case of suspension of a private security officer from his duties, following the application of the police measure provided for âin the regime governing the exercise of private security activity, the latest modifications of which entered into force in September 2019.
The suspension was linked to an incident that occurred in the early hours of October 3 and experienced on October 9, when footage began circulating of an attack on a customer at a nightlife establishment in Albufeira by one of the private security guards of this space, a moment experienced by many people.
The footage also showed that shortly after the start of the incident, which lasted around 30 seconds, two policemen from a GNR response team entered the space, at which time the victim was left unconscious in the ground by the aggressor.
After the broadcast of the images, questioned by Lusa, the GNR general command indicated that two people had been identified – the aggressor and the victim – and that the victim had refused medical assistance.
According to the memo released today, after viewing the footage, the PSP, “in exercising its powers to regulate and oversee the private security sector, requested information about the event from the security force. territorially competent “, in this case the GNR.
The PSP also specifies having carried out on the 11th, “an extraordinary administrative inspection of the private security companies operating in the establishment where the attacks took place”.
âFrom this extraordinary inspection, all the information relevant to the event in question was collected and analyzed, namely that necessary to determine the legal relations existing between the private security company and the establishment, as well as the identity of the aggressor â.
The PSP adds that the private security guard has been informed of the administrative decision, which takes effect immediately.
“This administrative decision will remain in force until its review or until the conclusion of the criminal investigation and the current administrative procedure,” adds the PSP, which also appeals to all private security companies, as well. to their employees who exercise this activity, to “comply with the applicable legal framework, with strict respect for the rights, freedoms and guarantees” of citizens.
